Capricorn Music shapes the sound of the new ORF-2 show “Hinter den Schlagzeilen” [Behind the Headlines]

For the new infotainment show Hinter den Schlagzeilen [Behind the Headlines] on ORF2, Capricorn Music was commissioned with the complete musical design.

This includes the signature theme (within ORF terminology referred to as a Signation – outside the ORF context one would usually speak of a jingle) as well as all sound beds accompanying the programme dramaturgically.

A format between talk and topicality – musically as well

Hinter den Schlagzeilen is a new weekday infotainment talk format hosted by Patrick Butgenand Mariella Gittler.

The focus lies on people who have experienced something extraordinary – stories that have made headlines and remained in public memory. The programme takes time to provide context and to look behind the surface of these stories.

Finding the right balance in sound

Due to the title of the show, there is a deliberate proximity to the world of news. At the same time, Hinter den Schlagzeilen is clearly positioned as a talk and infotainment format.

The musical challenge therefore was to acknowledge this proximity while clearly distancing the sound from a classic news aesthetic.

The resulting sound strikes a balance between restraint and character: structured, contemporary and clear – with enough individuality to create recognition, without drawing attention away from the content. The signature theme and sound beds support the flow of conversation, set subtle accents and provide the programme with its own sonic identity.

Experience in audio branding for TV formats

For several years now, Capricorn Music has been accompanying a wide range of TV programmes and formats musically. This experience also informed the work on Hinter den Schlagzeilen – with the aim of translating the idea of the show into a coherent and fitting musical language.
