For Ulli Bäer’s 70th birthday, some of the biggest names in Austrian pop music gathered on stage at the Globe Vienna. Among them were Wolfgang Ambros, Gert Steinbäcker, Thomas Stipsits, Andy Baum, and Matthias Kempf, performing some of their greatest hits for an enthusiastic audience. The program also featured songs by Ulli Bäer himself as well as numerous pieces by Georg Danzer, with whom Bäer was closely connected for many years as a guitarist.
The evening was accompanied by the Maria Ma Terzett with Mischa Krausz, Christian Einheller, Simon Springer, Ulli Bäer, and of course Maria Ma herself.This live recording captures an extraordinary concert evening – a highlight of recent Austropop history.

The album contains eight pieces written by Georg Danzer, five songs by his long-time guitarist, Ulli Bäer, and a hymn by Hansi Dujmic. Dulcimer, guitar, percussion and vocals, arranged into a new, unusually intense listening experience. Intimate and yet big.

The hammered dulcimer, in the Alpine region almost exclusively found in folk music, exists in similar form in many cultures all over the world. In her compositions, Maria Ma blends complex rhythms with spherical (over) tones to create a multi-coloured tapestry of sound.
